Kwabenya Curfew Revoked By Government

A curfew placed on the people of Kwabenya due to the death of a King has been called off by the government of Ghana.

The traditional leaders of Kwabenya announced a curfew few days ago which was supposed to take effect on the Thursday, 5th May,2022 throughout the town and it environs. The curfew is as a reason of the death of a king in the town, to ensure a smooth transition of his death. People in the community were asked to close their shops and turn off all light on that day. Later in the day, at around 7:00 in the evening, some men seen on bike from the Kwabenya community went round asking people to  open their shops and turn on their lights to avoid robbery in the community.

The government of Ghana at around 9:00 in the evening of the same day sent out announcers to inform the people of the community that there was nothing like a curfew on the community and as such they can go back to running their business as required.

The announcers accompanied by some military and police officer said that, the government has the sole mandate to endorse any document stating that a curfew should be placed on a community. They went on the indicate that, the government of Ghana led by H.E. Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo has not endorsed or approved any document giving authority to any group to impose a curfew on the town.

The people upon hearing the news expressed relieve and joy as they said they were frightened and were scared to go out and even get food for their families.
