Part of this has to do with the White Flame, which has been teased ever since the knight Cahir (Eamon Farren) warned Tissaia about the cleanup. We then learn that the ruler of Nilgaard, Emhyr (Bart Edwards), is the White Flame, and that he is spying on Ciri because she is his daughter.

The first volume will be released this week, June 29, while the second volume will be released in July.
According to executive producer Steve Gaub, the decision was made in part because of Stranger Things – but that wasn’t the plan either. Instead, during production, the team realized that the third season of The Witcher had a very natural midpoint that would make the two episodes work well.
“In a streaming world, spoilers don’t really exist.”
“It came out during the editing process,” Gaub said of the decision. “It wasn’t written in the script; We don’t know when we shoot. However, we know what the season is and there is an important bottom line. And while we were in production, Stranger Things came out and they split their seasons. And it was like, ‘Wow, that’s hot.’
